Are you someone that always worries whether their check-in luggage is going to be overweight?
I didn’t place much importance on the weigh of my travel luggage and had avoided the airline’s luggage weight limit penalties or charges until a recent trip to Mexico and the US.
I had my checked luggage in a single bag which included a bottle or two of rather nice tequila. My bag tipped the luggage scale at 25kg’s and the Delta Airline Check-in Agent politely said “there will be a $100 charge because the bag is 2.2kgs overweight”. I quickly become that person we all hate being behind in the check-in queue as I frantically unpacked my entire bag, lacy underwear and all, trying to pick out which items I could put in my carry on.
As soon as we landed and settled into our US digs, I bought a digital luggage scale and it already paid for itself on our return trip. I was able to avoid being charged for overweight luggage by distributing my weight correctly.
What are the overweight luggage fees?
Most airlines consider check-in bags over 23 kg (50lbs) to be overweight. Some airlines differ if you are in first or business class your checked baggage allowance is 2 bags. The fees are from $100 to $200 roundtrip.
Take the guessing and stressing out of packing your luggage with a digital luggage scale and you will arrive at the airport relaxed and with a peace of mind knowing that your luggage will not be overweight.
