Flights with layovers are often cheaper than direct flights, but despite the savings, many travellers will pay more to avoid the extra time in the airport. I have grown to appreciate a layover to break up a long haul flight and enjoy the opportunity to stretch the legs and sometimes freshen up with a shower and a change of clothing.

Check out the Airport Lounge

It may be worthwhile to check whether you have access the airline’s lounge, particularly if the extended layover wasn’t planned and due to mechanical difficulties. Access to many of these VIP areas is restricted to frequent fliers, certain bank account or loyalty card holders, but they all offer day passes at a cost. The Airport Lounges allow visitors to enjoy the quieter, comfier seating, Free Wi-Fi and complimentary snacks and drinks while you wait.

Enjoy a Snooze

Set an alarm on your phone, you know for sure you won’t miss your flight.
