Thailand presents visitors with a laidback fashion culture with Boardshorts or Sarong, T-shirt and Slip Slop’s sometimes make you feel a little overdressed. (Keeping in mind that you should cover up when visiting Temples, Religious Places or National Monuments.

When packing for that awesome Thailand Vacation or any holiday, stick with the 3:1 Rule of packing three tops for every pair of pants or skirt’s and forget the “what-if” philosophy. If you don’t have it you can get it there, at a fraction of the cost at home.

Things to leave at home:

  • WARM CLOTHES:  The only time you will need anything warm is on the plane and even then, keep it simple.  Thailand’s tropical climate allows travellers to dress down both day and night.  Warm clothes are big and bulky and take up space you should be saving for all the new stuff you are going to buy.
  • LOTS OF CASH: There are ATM’s available throughout Thailand and credit cards are also widely accepted.  Carrying too much cash is risky.
  • EXPENSIVE VALUABLES:  Leave expensive valuables at home.  Theft does happen in Thailand and, if you are travelling around a lot, there is always the chance of losing things on the road.
  • HEAVY BOOKS:  Invest in a Kindle if you can, failing which, most of the accommodation in Thailand offer magazines and books which you hand back when you leave.  Books are bulky and heavy and take up valuable space in your luggage.
  • MOSQUITO NET:  Often recommended on packing lists, but not necessary.  Most places in Thailand provide mosquito nets.
  • SLEEPING BAG: Unless you’re planning on doing a ton of camping and know that you’ll need your own gear, there’s no need to bring a sleeping bag.
  • TOO MUCH CLOTHING:  Most of what you bring from home wouldn’t be suitable for Thailands hot, humid climate so rather pack light, and buy there.  Clothes are very inexpensive in the local markets and unique to Thailand.
  • JEWELRY:  Thailand is very casual, both day and night, so there is no need for fancy or expensive jewellery.  The climate also does not lend itself to wearing too much jewellery.  Although Thailand is regarded as safe for tourists, you don’t want to draw attention to yourself by wearing anything too flashy.
